Liam Burns has been a member of Sundridge Park Golf Club since 2002. His current handicap is +3 and 2008 was his most successful season so far.

In the winter of 2008/9 Liam continued to refine and improve his technique under the tutelage of Steve Blacklee (Surrey Downs), which has resulted in a significant improvement in his game.

Liam started off his season on Saturday 31st January 2009 by winning the Hinge Trophy at Royal St.George's and followed it up two months later on 5th April by winning the Watson Trophy, which is an annual event for all Kent club champions held at Dartford. He won with a record score of 64 (5 under), 4 shots clear of second place.

On Saturday 9th May he was Runner-up in the Stoke Poges Trophy event and 8 days later he was Runner-up to Niall Kearney in the English Men's Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship - Brabazon Trophy at Moortown and finished off the month with a top 5 finish in the Lagonda Trophy.

He started June by clinching leading amateur in the PGA Souther Open Championship at Drift and continued with a top 5 finish in the Berkshire Trophy, which won him the prestigious Scrutton Jug (previous winners include Sandy Lyle and Nick Faldo) awarded annually to the player returning the best joint scores in the Brabazon and Berkshire Trophies. The month finished with him being runner-up in the Kent Amateur Championship and collecting a further two trophies - Simpson Cup and Scratch Cup - at the same event.

Currently Liam is 7th in English Golf Union Order of Merit and 508 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
